of money raised. Our 6th Walk was our record year when almost 3,000 people registered with £74,000 raised! This was where we ‘peaked’ for over the following years, although numbers were still incredibly high, we didn’t break that three thousand figure. The amounts raised slowly decreased too but remained ‘staggering’. In total we figured that approximately £900,000 overall was raised from the Walks alone. It became known as “Northamptonshire’s Walk of Walks”... and... our Walk was recognised and acknowledged as AVON’s UK leg for their ‘Walk Around The World’ campaign!
In 2008 we became a ‘partner’ with AVON after initial meetings with the company when Marilyn and I received an Avon ‘Friendship Award’. Avon became the official sponsors of our Walks. It was people like Bill, and his family, that really made the day run so
smoothly.
At the 2006 Walk, Avon offered
to set up a ‘pamper marquee’ for walkers – a beautiful marquee set out with lights, heaters, therapy chairs, drapes and... a pink carpet! What the Avon team hadn’t bargained on was that the marquee would be sited on grass... It was wet – it was muddy, and with the weather being so awful, people of course flocked to this new indoor attraction – men and women – each to have their hands and feet massaged and pampered!!! I felt so sorry for Avon’s team for, within minutes of opening, the pink carpet was pink no more! It was fun and
