such a wonderful initiative – but an expensive lesson!
Natalie Deacon: Head of Cause Related Marketing (Avon) said in 2011:
“We have been working with Crazy Hats for three years now. Avon is in Corby and Northampton and we have been supporting breast cancer charities nationally for seventeen years. We were really looking for a local charity so it was fantastic when we found Crazy Hats. We have given them a grant for the past three years to help them set up their Walks – we are very proud to be working with them.”
The following year, Karen Smith,
a trained complimentary therapist,
who we had got to know through Tingdene Homes, offered her services and that of other local qualified therapists to attend the Walks and offer similar pamper sessions (but not with pink carpet – or any carpet!) Karen ran a service (Body Sanctuary) in a beautiful salon she owned in Irthlingborough. To demonstrate the treatments she could offer, several members of the Crazy Hats team went along to her salon to be ‘pampered’ – to experience personal taster sessions and to meet other trained therapists who were qualified to give treatments to cancer patients. We had a wonderful evening and not only did Karen help out at Walk No. 7 (along with her ‘team’), she and her colleagues stayed with us for many years, offering treatments at our office. Along with Elaine Henson, the two of them set
up a very popular Thursday morning
facility and secured a room in at
George’s Dreams, a small business
opposite to where we set up our
‘home’, kitting it out as a high quality
therapy room – the only difference
being, our therapists had to set up
and put away everything each week.
The time and dedication, and the
high quality therapies delivered by
Karen, Elaine, Sue, another ‘Karen’,
another ‘Heather’ and a few others
who occasionally helped out, was
so much appreciated by everyone,
especially those who had the
privilege of being treated and have
