a school took all of my time and energy and had to take priority.
In the latter part of my table tennis career, I opted
to put something back into the game and became
heavily involved in coaching players, helping to
set up the Northamptonshire Schools Table Tennis
Association with a team of teachers and players
under the direction of a very determined and
enthusiastic Dave Marsh and a very enthusiastic
teacher, Andy Todd, from Wollaston School who
proved to be such a great friend and supporter, as
were his family. Dave and his family had moved
to Wellingborough from Watford and he and
his wife, Dusty, were accomplished county table
tennis players. We became very good friends, and
I ended up partnering both Dave and Dusty in table tennis and tennis tournaments and league play. Dave was very ambitious and worked so hard to improve playing facilities and playing opportunities in Northamp- tonshire. I was able to offer my services as secretary for a few years and was delighted when he secured new premises by obtaining grants and was able to start the reputable Westfield Table Tennis Club in Wellingborough which is still going strong today. Dave’s drive to get things done, and to fight for funding, was inspirational; the obstacles he had to overcome were many, but he persevered and achieved his goal – I learned a lot from that. During my treatment for breast cancer, and when I experienced huge problems with my position in school, both Dave and Dusty came to the fore and were with me every step of the way; their support was
