Exercise KALYNDOS CADET
OCdt Macfadden
EX KALYNDOS CADET was a Rock-Climbing Expedition to Kalymnos, Greece. Nine Officer Cadets from the Royal Military Academy
Sandhurst attended the arduous climbing trip to the Greek Island. Four members successfully achieved the Rock-Climbing Single-Pitch Founda- tion (RSF) qualification, two completed continuation training for RCS, and a
dition then progressed into the more technical aspects, like lead climbing and improving skill levels and strength to complete more and more challenging routes. Climbs were conducted all over the island utilising the huge range of crags, attempting a new crag each day; this allowed
for cadets to test their skills in a new unfamiliar environment each day.
This expedition fulfilled the aims of adventurous training, pushing OCdts past their comfort zones in order to develop them mentally and physically, giving them challenging situations that will benefit them further through
further two members completed valu- able training for the RMT qualification.
This expedition fulfilled the aims of adventurous training...
The Expedition consisted of five
days of continuous progressive
training, teaching novices the intrica-
cies and skills vital to be competent
rock climbers. The course developed the climb- ers on the basic skills and drills whilst allowing them to gain confidence on the walls. The expe-
training and into future operations. Our greatest appreciation goes out to the Sandhurst Trust that provided us with the funds that allowed us to conduct such a demanding and fulfilling expe- dition. The funds provided meant the purchasing of hire cars could be possible, which opened up the whole of the island, significantly increasing the range and complexity of crags and climbs the OCdts could experience.
