Drawing a close to this years’ training events, CUOTC, in partnership with East Midlands UOTC, undertake an extensive Green Skills Package to hone in and develop their skills and drills in order
to prepare cadets for more arduous courses in the months to come. Forming up on Friday September 2nd, this years’ package included a wide array of events that stretched cadets both physically and mentally, with particular emphasis on personal development; ultimately culminating in a field exercise and final attack on Estmere village.
The early phases of the training package consisted of numerous activities in and around the CLARC. Op Teamwork mixed together OCdts across the training divisions to integrate and develop cadet’s leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, with individual sections competing against one another in a multi-day competition. The arrival
of EMUOTC, doubled the numbers involved in the exercise and highlighted the strength of training in mass. Lessons in river crossings, were supplemented by clay pigeon shooting and then a military swim test at Parkside Pools. The following day saw an introduction to
the assault course on base, before then fully tackling the obstacles after lunch with our sections as part of the ongoing
competition. A Virtual Reality brief by Capt Crisp capped off an excellent opening to the training week.
Monday saw a change of pace, as cadets undertook coaching sessions courtesy of Bullet Coaching; focusing
on goal-setting and incremental improvements to achieve their own personal goals, both big and small. A visit to 4 Army Air Corps and a tour
of the new Apache AH64 model was
an excellent afternoon well spent, as cadets met frontline pilots and had the opportunity to sit in the cockpit itself. The next two days consisted of a range package at Barton Road, where for many cadets this was their first-time live firing. In between shooting rounds, cadets were taught excellent lessons on CBRN and CBDT drills from expert military
instructors pooled from the wider Army, as well as CQB and Comms lessons
to match. Arriving back to the CLARC, cadets then quickly packed before heading out to STANTA for the FTX.
Arriving into the field around 04:00, cadets made their way across STANTA to the harbour area; entering harbour routine and recceing Estmere village
for the following days’ assault. Briefly receiving contact from the enemy (senior div/SUO’s) encroaching onto the harbour area, we then took orders before resting up for tomorrow’s attack. Leaving at
the break of dawn, we made our way to Estmere Village and awaited the signal, taking turns between Cambridge and East Mids in assaulting and clearing buildings. A fast-paced and intense morning of activity brought to a close
