RECREATION FACILITY
in Glapthorn Parish
Glapthorn Parish Council is delighted to announce that
its playing field development behind the village primary school on Benefield Road is open.
This comprises a
sports playing pitch
to Sport England
standards, a children’s play area and an outdoor gym. There is also a public car park, not only
to service these facilities, but also for members of the public to use that may wish to walk up to Short (Bluebell) Wood and beyond.
The playing pitch still needs some agronomic work doing on it, but it should be ready for
use by the late summer. The playing field dimensions are capable of hosting both
rugby and football and sports clubs and other
interested parties are invited to contact Glapthorn Playing Field Association (GPFA) to discuss hire charges and availability.
The outdoor gym (provided by Sunshine Gym) features 6
pieces of equipment covering both strength
and conditioning and the children’s play area (provided by market leader, Kompan) has a range of play equipment for ages 4 to 12.
The project was financed by grant aid from East Northants Council, Sport England, the National Lottery, the Augean Community Fund and its related East Northants Resource Management Fund and FCC Communities Foundation. The land was purchased with the help of a loan from the Public Works Loan Board to be repaid by Glapthorn’s council taxpayers over the next 30 years and voted through by residents in a local referendum.
These facilities will be open to the public, but the car park will be closed overnight.
