Superb new fence at Windmill Avenue
Many thanks to the generous support of Kettering Town Council as we have a fabulous new fence at Windmill Avenue. We are very grateful for the continued support of the Town Council. This has been reported in the Evening Telegraph.
2023 Best Kept Allotment Plot Competition
Leicester Allotments and Gardens Council held their annual Best Kept Plot competition in July this year, with the winner receiving the Albert Thornhill Memorial Trophy.
Twenty-three allotment societies had the opportunity to enter their best three plots to be judged. The guest judge this year was Mr. Bob Mullins of Leicester City Council.
The judge had the most difficult task this year, with the hot weather early in the summer and then the rain later, but the standard of the plots entered has been improving every year - not just for quality but also the number of plots that were of this high standard.
In third place was a tie between Mr Paul Johnson of Rookeries Allotment Society on Paget Street site, and Robert Curson & Katrina Graham of Braunstone Town Community Allotment Society on the Braunstone Close site, each achieving 140 points out of 200 points. Second place Best Kept Plot, with 141 points, was awarded to Chris Nicholson
and Nicola Bowell of Braunstone Community Allotment Society, Rosamund Avenue site. First place with 167 points went to Kris & Margaret Gula
of the Belgrave Allotment Society on the Red Hill site.
An allotment open day at the Belgrave Allotment Society’s Red Hill site,
with a chance to view the winning plot, was arranged for Saturday 19th August. Trophies were presented by LAGC Chair, Craig Ward, and Belgrave Allotment Society President, Mary- Louise Harrison.
