RAPTC BASKETBALL
The RAPTC Army Inter Corps Championships 2016
SSgt (SSI) D Brown RAPTC
The 2016 basketball calendar was shaped by friendly matches throughout the competitive season in preparation for the 2016 Army Inter-Corps Championships (ICC) held at Prince William of Gloucester Barracks, Grantham.
The RAPTC engaged in a number of friendly xtures including military and civilian opponents. The highest standard of opposition came against the rst Division Winchester Wasps who tested the Corps reserve and eventually won the match (87-78).
Further xtures included playing the Tidworth Garrison team (including the Army Inter Unit Champions KRH), the Wattisham Garrison-Army Air Corps team and a Reunion game against Army and APTC basketball veterans.
The 2016 ICC’s were hosted and administered by the Army Air Corps. The male team’s initial xture revealed the RAPTC would face the Royal Armoured Corps, the xture provided the opportunity for the RAPTC side to display tough defence and accurate outside shooting, the RAPTC convincing victors. The second xture came against a strong Infantry team, both teams displaying high levels of tness, with the RAPTC out lasting the Infantry to win a slim 2 point margin. The nal 2 xtures of the ICC came against the RE and AGC, both team fully manned and well drilled. The Corps rallied early on in each xture but was unable
to outlast 2 of the stronger teams in the competition. The 2 wins were not enough to see the RAPTC escape the group stages.
Since the start of 2017 the RAPTC have played 2 friendly xtures. The initial xture came against the RLC (2016 IC Champs) and Yatley’s Div 1 team. Both xtures were held at Fox Gymnasium and were ercely contended, with the RAPTC winning both encounters.
The goals for 2017 are rstly to increase playing frequency, secondly to grow the player base and thirdly to establish a female team; all in an effort to improve the performance for this year’s ICC.
