Overall another successful year of the ASTC – now moving into its fourth cycle the ASTC promises to go from strength to strength in 2016/17 with new category additions and collation methods, hopefully resulting in a more open competition with more units entering.

Regional Command PD branch often organise and conduct light hearted physical activities to facilitate a release from the busy mouse and keyboard activity that dominates the oor plates in Montgomery House.

HEADQUARTERS 1 ARMOURED INFANTRY BRIGADE
WO1 (SMI) Al Harris RAPTC
The 1st Armoured Infantry Brigade is the British Army’s foremost Brigade; operating out of Tidworth on Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA) as part of 3rd (UK) Division.
The current Orbat of the Brigade is RTR, HCR, 1RRF, 1 MERCIAN and 4 RIFLES. With the changes from A2020 re ne this will change over the next few years with 4 RIFLES being replaced with 3 RIFLES in Apr 17. The ultimate plan is for the Bde to re-role into a Strike Bde by 2021. This will bring all sorts of challenges but also creates exciting times.
I took over as SMI PD in Aug 16 and was unsure what to expect. I no longer had a gym to run or staff to manage on a daily basis and didn’t like that prospect, but it soon became apparent that this role offered so much more. I am exposed regularly to higher level planning and have input to what is happening at the sharp end in the Field Army. One of the rst major exercises I deployed on was the Army War ghting Assessment in Texas, USA; a baptism of re for me into planning multi-national operations. I also acted as the Bde Sergeant Major for the Ex, a role I have continued back in camp. This is a great privilege as I gain valuable time with the Commander and am privy to various meetings and discussions that give me a better understanding of the bigger picture.
1 Armd Inf Brigade has just nished as the ‘at readiness’ Brigade and is now in its committed year supporting 12 and 20 Brigades in their training and at readiness years respectively.
