Nordic Skiing Capt M C B Webb RHA
Despite the 2021/22 season being cut short due to COVID- 19 travel restrictions, Nordic activity within our Regiment has continued. Capt Webb RHA was selected to race for
Great Britian at the International Biathlon Union Cups and the European Championships despite taking up the sport only 24 months prior. He is now the number one GB biathlete and has been selected to join a professional biathlon team in Lillleham- mer, Norway training for the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics.
Since the last season, Lance Bombardier Beasley-Welch attended a Biathlon Instructors Development Camp at Thorney Island for one week to develop his knowledge and instructional ability ahead of the next season. He will no doubt be a useful asset to this year’s regimental team.
As we approach the 2022/23 season, the Regiment will send a team to attend the Gunner pre-season training camp, Exercise NORDIC GUNNER in Norway, to learn the art
of cross-country skiing and biathlon. After 3 weeks of
training, they will travel onwards to the Qualifying Championships in France in January 2023 where the team will aim to retain both Novice Cross- Country and Biathlon titles and qualify for the Army/National Championships. Only the strong- est teams qualify for the Army Championships in Ruhpolding, Germany, which the Regiment has achieved in both 2019 and 2020. Best of luck troops!
