RAF COSFORD 2023
EASTER ANNUAL CAMP
By Cadet Flight Sergeant George Dias
During April 46 cadets ventured down to RAF Cosford, just outside of Wolverhampton. They spent the
week learning about all aspects of current serving personnel's modern-day phase 2 training life.
Sunday was the first full day of camp with a nice and early 6:30 reveille. After breakfast, the cadets were treated to their first of many room inspections; as you’d imagine on day 1, there were jungles of sweet wrappers and lots of clothes left out, however by the end of the week, most of the rooms were up to RAF standards. At 10:30, the cadets set off to the National Memorial Arboretum, where they spent the day looking around at the varied memorials from all the armed forces. This visit provided the first opportunity for the cadets to get to know each other and speak to other people not from their home squadrons.
Monday saw us visit the School of PT, where the cadets partook in some relay races and a quick bit
of basketball practice, showcasing the regular PT sessions that the trainees undertake as a part of their regular day-to-day activities. In the afternoon, the cadets paid a visit to the RAF Fire section. While there, the firefighters showed us all of the equipment they have available to them when carrying out their duties and allowed the cadets to take control of
fire hoses and feel the power of water pressure. That evening the camp took part in an inter-flight competition of rounders, with the losing team having to take on the staff team in the grand finale.
Tuesday saw a visit from the RAF Police where the cadets got to talk with the police officers and learn their story of how they joined the RAF. While there, the cadets got to sit in the police car and turn the siren and lights on and off. Tuesday afternoon

saw the cadets visit the Management Training School (MTS), where the cadets were looking inside different engine components using different visual probes. While one half of the camp were looking
at the engines the other half were in the armoury, where they got to look at and handle some of the rifles they had in stores, with some of them coming from foreign countries.
Wednesday morning started off with the camp photograph and then moved swiftly on to the School Of Technical Training, where the cadets got to take
a closer look inside some of the aircraft such as the Tornado, Red Arrows Hawk, and the Jaguar. The other half of the morning was spent looking at the weapon systems available to the modern pilot,
such as missiles, cruise missiles and laser-guided bombs. In the afternoon, the camp split off into 3 groups to visit the No.1 Radio school, where the cadets got hands-on experience on how to set up the same satellite communication phones used by first
