REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE ROYAL LANCERS (QUEEN ELIZABETHS’ OWN) 109 Brewers’ Company Affiliation 2018
The Worshipful Company of Brewers began its affiliation with the Royal Lancers in May 2015 and we are very proud of our relationship with the Regiment, which continued to flour- ish in 2018. A highlight this year was the visit by the Immediate Past Master, Paul Wells, the Middle Warden, Richard Fuller, and the Clerk, Michael O’Dwyer, to see the Regiment whilst on de- ployment in Cyprus. They were very pleased to have the oppor- tunity to observe several aspects of the work that the Regiment was doing, including patrolling the UN buffer zone and seeing the Force Commander’s reserve training in full riot gear. The visit was a chance to continue to strengthen the bond between the Regiment and the Brewers’ Company and we are very grate- ful to all involved in organising it.
During the visit, the Immediate Past Master presented the Brew- ers’ Company Award 2018 to Trooper Samuel Morris. The prize is presented annually to the Trooper or JNCO who has shown the greatest initiative in support of Regimental life, be it pro- fessionally, on the sports pitch or in support to the Regimental community. In the citation for the award, Trooper Morris was praised for embodying the Army’s Values and Standards over the last year: “He has been excellent from the very start of the pre-deployment training for Operation TOSCA. On deploy- ment, he took to leading patrols extremely naturally and with a confidence that belied his rank. His performance has outshone that of many of the Lance Corporals in his Platoon. He is not

afraid to grip junior troopers when necessary but takes the time to help the less experienced. Trooper Morris has maintained a positive and enthusiastic attitude throughout the tour and is al- ways the first to volunteer for new opportunities and additional responsibilities. An excellent year so far!”
Outside of our affiliations, 2018 has been a great year for the Brewer’s Company. In addition to supporting the brewing in- dustry by running a full programme of events for our mem- bers, throughout the year we administered the distribution of £1,940,911 from our charities. The eleven charities of which the Company is trustee support a range of good causes, including two schools, educational programmes for children in Islington, almshouses providing accommodation for elderly people, and small grants for people in need.
We look forward to another great year in 2019 and to continuing to strengthen our bond with the Royal Lancers going forward.
