a competency that allows them to kitesurf independently. Other Lancers involved themselves in activities such as sea kayaking, scuba diving and even parachuting at the Joint Service Adventure Training Wing next door to the TRATT. Lance Corporal Whi- taker took the time to gain his skydiving freefalling qualification, demonstrating nerves of steel. Opportunities with the Joint Ser- vice Adventure Training Wing extended the experience available to deployed personnel significantly and they took full advantage of all that was on offer. Special mention must go to Warrant Of- ficer Class II Petherbridge who, along with the Captain Parker, committed to coming down at weekends with a group of keen di- vers who plunged into a full summer season of diving. Mr Pether- bridge was able to qualify as a Dive Leader, a serious achievement.
The Rear Operations Group also joined us for a week, sending 15 soldiers to Cyprus to see how we were getting on. We were able to run a 10-day package for them at the back end of the tour, which provided a well-earned break from the hectic pace of life they were experiencing whilst supporting the deployed force.
All in all, the TRATT was able to qualify 207 deployed personnel in foundation level training and a further 78 were able to take
for the climbers
part in Joint Service Adventure Training Wing and kitesurfing courses. This coupled with Ex BLUE LANCER, sub aqua and sailing at weekends brought the total number of people partici- pating in Adventure Training to just over 300, which far exceeded our expectation and targets, an extremely pleasing result.
