The ITC visits London for the Sounding of the Retreat
As the future of the Regiment, Ri es Coy took advantage of an opportunity to escape normal training for a day. On 01 June 2016, 45 members of the Company travelled to London to support the Regiment at the Sounding of the Retreat on Horse Guards. Of the 45, 33 were recruits nearing the end of their training for whom this new experience boosted understanding of the Regiment and reinforced the Regimental pride instilled during the early weeks of training.
For just under half of the Ri emen, this was their rst trip to London. The day began with a tour of the Houses of Parliament. This was an interesting visit to the Palace of Westminster that allowed the Ri emen to gain an insight into the history and workings of the legislature that could send them to war and on missions all over the world.
Following this tour there was enough time for the Rfn to enjoy some brief sightseeing and to eat out prior to the Sounding of the Retreat. This was the
rst time the recruits had seen the Band and Bugles and all enjoyed the occasion and the setting, made more impressive by their history lesson a few hours earlier. It has set high expectations for the future! Captain Hugh Hemsley, Ri es 7 Platoon Commander
The Ri es Cottage
Nestled on a little farm in the picturesque lower Swaledale valley, it has been another exceptional year for the Ri es Cottage at ITC Catterick. First, some turnover in members; Captains Tom Legge and Harry Jenner have departed for pastures new at their respective battalions, with Captain Ian Cullen and Lieutenant Tom Jamison joining Captains Kenji Ara and Hugh Hemsley to complete the current Granary Cottage lineup. This beautiful and exciting region of North Yorkshire has a lot to offer, and, in the best spirit of the Regiment, full advantage has been taken.
