APPEAL LAUNCH DAY
Rotary Club
5th October, 10am-1pm
Thrapston Plaza, Cosy Nook Thrapston
We will again be filling 300 boxes for children
in desperate need. We will have all the items there that can go in the boxes: come along and make a box up. £5 gets you a box and shipping. Just put into the box what you want out of our stock – everything we put out we know is safe
to go in. It is a fun, amazing, experience, ideal for children and adults alike, and you can bring a special item to add if you like – a photo or a letter even. Random acts of kindness can change a child’s future. I have personally met someone
who received one and it transformed her life. She went on to translate for the shoebox appeal distributors. To know that someone thousands of miles away cares about you is a feeling like no other, especially to someone who has nothing. Imagine if your child had not one toy: how exciting would it be to get a box for them?
I have given boxes out to children with nothing in Kyrgyzstan – nothing at all. It leaves a lasting impression on you to see the joy as they open the box. Please come along and make a difference to a child’s life.

Rotary News
Thrapston and Raunds Rotary Club continues to try to make a difference to the community in the local area and further afield.
We have continued to give support to the local foodbanks and the charity Sailability at Grafham water. However, more recently members decided to give support to two other charities that help people in need: ShelterBox and Aquabox. We
are also preparing for our annual distribution of Hyacinths in the new year.
Whilst now very firmly out of the news agenda, Hurricane Beryl in the Caribbean
did get some news coverage at the time. The widespread damage that was caused was extensive and homes across whole islands
were damaged or destroyed. Having seen the devastation in the Caribbean caused by the Hurricane, our club has paid for a ShelterBox to help the charity in its efforts to help with this, and other similar types of events. You
can find out more about ShelterBox and its response to Hurricane Beryl, and how they prepare for similar situations by looking at their website https://shelterbox.org/where-we-work/ hurricane-beryl/
Although now an independent disaster relief charity, ShelterBox was originally a millennium
14
project set up by a Cornish Rotary Club in 2000. ShelterBox and Rotary International are official project partners in disaster relief.
Originally established in 1992 by Wirksworth Rotary Club, Aquabox is now an independent charity and is also a Rotary partner charity which provides safe drinking water through the use of filtration units, and humanitarian aid to crisis zones around the world. It is an almost entirely volunteer organisation and more details of its activities can be found on their website https://aquabox.org/. Historically our club has helped provide numerous Aquaboxes but most recently we have provided some Family Filters.
Whilst it was mentioned in the last issue,
we hope that as many people as possible will support the wonderful efforts of the Thrapston Community Rotary Shoe Box Appeal at the “Launch Day” on 5th October from 10am till 1pm at the Plaza Centre, Thrapston. They plan to fill 300 boxes for children in desperate need on the day!
Further details of the club and Rotary can be found on the Rotary Club of Thrapston and Raunds Rotary Club Facebook page.
