have regular interviews with your platoon staff who will ask you some rigorous questions designed to put you under pressure or make you doubt yourself, I just had to be myself, respond in a professional manner and remain confident. You also work as a syndicate on a scenario where you have to produce a CE presentation and be prepared to stand in front of numerous RMAS personalities in a conference room where they ask you lots of questions. It
can seem intimidating which is partly the purpose of it. As a group, we just had to be confident with our plan. On another part of the cadre we were given a whole scenario, initially with limited information, then with
a time limit of 4 hours. Working individually, we had to complete a full set of Orders and Combat Estimate. When the time was up, we were sent to different RMAS staff to deliver our Orders and explain our plan through the CE to them.
Another aspect you are assessed on is your physical fitness, which needs to be
of a high standard. On the cadre you are required to complete assessments such as the Ground Close Combat (GCC) RFT(S), command tasks, a log race, the 5 ways run, a weighted run and a timed NAVEX carrying weight. My command task was
a casualty extraction through a stream
that runs through the camp of RMAS and through a small tunnel, also known as the ‘sheep dip.’ Safe to say we had a cold start
to the day! In the last week we took part
in Ex LONG REACH alongside Officer Cadets who complete this on the Regular Commissioning Course. This involved working as a syndicate, each person carrying 20kg, tabbing across Dartmoor carrying out a timed NAVEX and command tasks along the way. We had a time limit of 36 hours to complete this journey consisting of about 60km, with one enforced rest of 4 hours at a manned checkpoint. On the day, it was nearly called off as winds were reaching between 50-60mph, this did make the task somewhat more difficult especially with the visibility being almost non-existent at times. It’s definitely an experience!
Throughout the whole time on the cadre, you are assessed on your values and standards, your attitude, how you interact with others and how you work both in a team and individually. I fully enjoyed the cadre and was lucky to work with some great people in my syndicate. I recommend going on a pre-cadre before attending the RMAS cadre as this will better prepare you. I managed to get loaded onto the

Household Division, Parachute Regiment Centralised Courses (HDPRCC) Pre-Cadre but unfortunately became very ill just prior to this and almost questioned whether to
go on the pre-cadre or the cadre. However,
I decided to at least go on the cadre for
the experience even though my physical fitness was affected because of this. However, I have the opportunity to attend the next cadre in February 2022. If anyone is interested in pursuing this in their career, I’m more than happy to discuss this with them or point them in the right direction where I can.
Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.
