Nordic Skiing
In recent years operations have restricted the regiment’s participation in Nordic Skiing and after limited involvement last year, the 2015-16 season has been one of great success.
Ri emen were given the opportunity to take on a fresh challenge while developing a suite of skills. Nordic demands the highest physical standards as well as the skill of a marksman.
Off the piste the Nordic season involves Ri emen taking on a lot more responsibility as the team must sustain themselves and maintain a range of unfamiliar equipment.
Teams from 1, 3, 4 and 5 RIFLES featured on Ex NORDIC FROSTED BLADE held in Bessans, France which commenced in mid-November. Ultimately this phase culminated in a host of podium nishes for the experienced First and Fourth Battalions.
The Third Battalion fought valiantly with an all novice out t to nish 18 of 32 and step a marker for following seasons. With several promising young skiers and a growing group of experienced NCOs the future of RIFLES Nordic skiing looks bright.
