WATTBIKE TESTING – IMPROVING ELITE PERFORMANCE SINCE 2008
The original Wattbike Pro/Trainer was designed together with champions. So it should come as no surprise that the Wattbike is today the go-to indoor training and testing tool for numerous sports teams, athletes, and coaches around the globe.
Today, Wattbikes can be found in more than 50 professional football clubs in the UK including every single Premier League team, and in many top clubs globally such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspurs and Liverpool FC are also avid Wattbike users.
Wattbikes have also become an essential piece of kit at Sheffield United, who recently gained promotion to the Premier League. The team use specific programmes for every player based on their fitness test results. This testing provides hundreds of data points to the coaches and allows for measurable and repeatable training for the players.
Lee McMahon, Head of Sport Science at Sheffield United, states: “we believe in collecting as much information about each player as possible. The parameters provided by the Wattbike Performance Monitor and Hub app allow us to adopt an evidence based approach to each player in which we can make measured decisions on how to condition each player for any given outcome”.
The Wattbike Performance Monitor enables the accurate measurement of more than 40 parameters. Combined with a fully customisable ride setup and the feel of riding a real bike, it provides the user with a highly effective and efficient power-based training solution.
Away from the football pitch, UK Sport have been using the Wattbike for the largest multi-sport identification programme in British history; the #DiscoverYourGold campaign. The Wattbikes are an essential part of identifying talented young athletes who have the potential to become future champions. Young hopefuls
are put through a series of rigorous testing, including two 6-second max sprints, two 10-second max sprints, and a maximal ramp test. These tests set repeatable, accurate benchmarks for every athlete’s explosive power and anaerobic endurance, allowing UK Sport to identify the champions of tomorrow.
Also utilising the Wattbike for talent identification is the UCI World Cycling Centre, following in the footsteps of British Cycling who pioneered the Wattbike and its tests more than a decade ago in 2008. At the UCI the Wattbikes are utilised as a testing, training, and monitoring tool at the high performance facility in Aigle, Switzerland and in their other satellite centres across the world.
Building on its cycling roots, Wattbike teamed up with triathlon apparel brand HUUB to create one of the most exciting teams in track cycling this year: the HUUB Wattbike team. Featuring World Cup winners, World Champions, and world tour riders, the HUUB Wattbike team have already made their mark on the international cycling stage by claiming a few medals on the World Cup circuit.
The New York Mets also recently joined the Wattbike tribe, and in Japan, you can find Wattbikes at the Altitude Training Centre in Yumomaru-Kogen and at the Sontag Hotel in Nagano. The rugby World Cup is taking place here later this year, and 180 Wattbikes will be delivered to all training and match facilities to make sure rugby players from around the world can train and test on their preferred equipment.
Wattbike is the go-to indoor trainer for football, rugby, cycling and cricket teams around the world, because it can do it all. From testing, training, rehabilitation, and injury prevention, to an overall improvement of the different energy systems. Resulting in the most important results elite sports teams strive for; improving performance, scoring more points and winning titles.
Take your performance to the next level with Wattbike. Creating champions since 2008.
