RRU Aldershot has experienced another large changeover of staff in 2018, which included the previous OC - Maj Ferry RAMC, who completed his 2-year tour and was posted
to CTCRM in Lympstone. In true RAPTC fashion, Maj Ferry was given a gruelling physical challenge as a send-off by courtesy of Sgt (SI) Woodhead, you’re welcome Sir!
Also, completing her tour at RRU Aldershot was the Business Manager - Fg Off St-Brice, who is sorely missed, but luckily her successor Fg Off Boyd has made a seamless transition and keeps us all in check with our mandatory training. Other staff who began their posting and joined the team in 2018 were Mr Steven Cain, Mrs Joanne Wright (physiotherapists), Maj Carroll RAMC (2IC) and OC - Maj Lord RAMC.

The lower limbs, spines and upper quadrant courses remain busy and generally fully loaded, which demonstrates the tempo of the London-South East regional PCRFs. In terms of the courses, we, alongside RRU Aldergrove and Portsmouth have been responsible for trialling the implementation of the Defence Occupational Fitness Program (DOFit) as part of the lesson contents already being delivered. This has been received very well by all patients attending the courses and successful in capturing those at risk by educating them on the importance of continuing with the DOFit program after discharge from the RRU. The success of this trial now means that all RRUs will be delivering DOFit as part of their courses in 2019 once all clinicians have completed the required training.
In supporting of the region and local units, Sgt (SI) McCann led and ran ‘An Insight to Rehabilitation’ 1-day workshop for AAPTIs, which was very well received by all that attended. This included lessons delivered by all the RRU ERIs and Physiotherapists on topics such as mobility, pilates and load carriage, to mention a few.

Both Sgt McCann and Sgt Woodhead have also been supporting the ASPT and attempting to recruit future ERIs by delivering at the AAPTIs Unit Health Fairs.
On the sporting front, Sgt (SI) Woodhead continues to represent the RAPTC Cycling Team whilst Sgt (SI) McCann has found a passion for Triathlon and is looking at completing a full Ironman
