this year. WO2 (QMSI) Percival is doing his best to avoid getting fat by doing some indoor and on the water rowing.
The RRU team are never shy of a challenge and in Dec 18 they completed a 24-hour Watt Bike and Indoor Rower challenge for the charity Save the Children. All the staff took part whilst wearing their best Christmas jumpers and there was also a staff and patient Bake Sale. The day saw the team raise over £350.
The team look forward to the challenges that may lay ahead in 2019/20 and will continue to deliver the best rehabilitation to all patients that pass through the doors at RRU Aldershot via a multi- disciplinary team approach.
PCRF Winchester
PCRF Winchester (PCRF(W)) is located in the South West Region of Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) within ATR Winchester and is a Phase 1 training establishment responsible for recruit training. The clinical staff at PCRF(W) consists of the OC: Capt S Lygo RAMC, ERIs: SSgt (SSI) L Paterson and Sgt (SI) D Grenier RAPTC, Physiotherapists: Mrs V Laws and Mr D Barrow (Band 7). PCRF(W) is responsible for the rehabilitation of Fox Platoon (recruits) and permanent staff rehabilitation at both unit and regional level.
If recruits sustain an injury they are referred to the physio department and assessed. The extent of their Injury will determine whether they are removed from training and placed into Fox Platoon. OC Fox Platoon: Capt (MAA) J Foreshew (RAPTC) and his team provide military development whilst the recruits undertake rehabilitation prior to returning to training. A newly updated rehabilitation programme has seen an improved structure towards early, intermediate and late rehabilitation. This has enabled recruits to remain motivated towards rehabilitation and integrate personal goals whilst establishing regular feedback and opportunities to learn and enhance their personal knowledge of injuries and conditions. Clear outcome measures and tests allow
recruits to keep track of their progress and provide focus on the next stage of their rehabilitation pathway.
Regionally PCRF(W) has moved from the south to the South West region and has lost some of the additional PCRFs it had provided support to, such as Middle Wallop and HQ Andover, which will now be supported by RRU Tidworth. Their primary task is to aid Worthy Down, as it increases in population and size during project Wellesley and 17 Port & Maritime in Marchwood. A subsequent re-setting of the medical group has aligned the medical chain of command to facilitate this change of organisation allowing augmentation of both medical and rehabilitation care strategies.
PCRF London
The diversity of clientele at PCRF London means that SSgt (SSI) Ian Tosh communicates with ranks up to 2* Officers on a daily basis. The PCRF London team currently comprises of two part- time Sports Doctors, six Physiotherapists, a part-time Podiatrist, plus SSgt (SSI) Tosh as the Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor. The wealth of knowledge within the department is vast and allows for productive and innovative debates daily. Notably, one of the PCRF Locum Physiotherapists was recently awarded a commendation from Commander Home Command for outstanding contribution to the support of the British Army.
PCRF London supports the Ceremonial Companies, HQ at Horse Guards, MOD Main Building and Regents Park Barracks. This means the personnel at risk stands at around 1600 in total.
The continual focus for 2019 is to support LONDIST with Rehab advice, guidance and reconditioning structure for Units to aid a better and more effective force.
In sport, SSgt (SSI) Tosh is back cycle road racing most weekends, trying to compete, but with the consciousness that he is a 37-year-old bloke racing against young men with no jobs and high thresholds.
SSgt (SSI) Tosh is due to leave post soon, anyone who fancies bringing the family to watch the changing of Her Majesties Guard, drop him a line.
PCRF Pirbright
The PCRF at ATC (P) has had an incredibly busy year, with numerous staffing changes and challenges at every step along the way.
SSgt (SSI) Wallace arrived in June and hit the ground running, bringing a fresh, keen attitude to the PCRF and developing a strong rapport straight away with those around her. She has been developing the rehabilitation structure in line with the new Common Military Syllabus (CMS 18) starting in ATC(P), and the
