RAPTC Golf continues to go from strength to strength with numbers increasing and several new faces attending events. With a mixed fixture list of both military and civilian
fixtures the team were keen to get the 2018 season under way.
The first event for the RAPTC Golf society was our annual fixture against the Royal Armoured Corps at Tidworth. Some great performances saw the team win the opening fixture by 5.5 - 2.5 in poor conditions, which was a great start to the season. Moving into May, the team held fixtures against the RIFLES at Oak Park GC and Dummer GC, Basingstoke respectively. A couple of strong team performances saw the team make it 3 wins from 3 in a superb start to the season. The next fixture on the calendar was against Petersfield GC where unfortunately the unbeaten run ended against a very good Petersfield team.
Moving into June it was time for the annual Festival of Golf which was held at Belton Woods GC, again over 30 members of the RAPTC Golf society gathered for the 2-day event. There was a great mix of both serving and retired golfers who competed to become the RAPTC Corps Champion. After a great couple of days, the overall winners were;

Early July approaching saw the annual migration of Army Golfers to Saunton GC, Devon, for the annual Army Golf Match Play Championships and Inter Corps Championship. After the draw was completed the RAPTC team were up against an experienced AGC “A” team in the first round. After the scores were tied at 2.5/2.5 it went to a tense sudden death playoff to decide who would move forwards to the quarter finals. After a solid performance in the playoff the team moved forwards to play the

AGC “B” team in the next round. Again, a great performance saw the team win convincingly and move into the semi-final where we met the Royal Engineer team who have been previous winners on several occasions. Despite a great effort the RE team were just too strong for the RAPTC team as they moved into the final to play the eventual winners, the Infantry. It is worth noting that this performance was the best performance from the Corps team in this event for a considerable period. It was also the last time that Lt Col (SMAA) Tom Scarr RAPTC would compete as a serving member of the RAPTC. We wish him well as he moves into the Association section of the society.
The season ended in Sep with the RAPTC Biannual functions at the Army GC in Aldershot. Over 20 members of the RAPTC GS came together for the season finale. Despite some needing a headtorch to finish their rounds, a great day was had by all.
In short, the RAPTC Golf Society is in great shape and continues to grow in popularity on both the Serving and Association sides. Anyone interested in attending an event regardless of ability should contact the secretary.
