Over the last twelve months the pace of life at 2 SCOTS has remained high and shows no signs of slowing soon. This year began with a deployment on Ex JERBAL STORM,
Oman. Aside from its usual difficulties of dealing with the heat Ex JERBAL STORM was a huge success. As usual those deployed were able to find the time to get some much-needed sport in. The 2 SCOTS football team took on the challenge to play against a local team. Nobody knew at the time what they called themselves, but the nerves settled when the local team appeared to turn up in their work clothes! 2 SCOTS lived up to the tag of favourites by winning 7-0. Also, on the rise was the number of Table Tennis players. I guess it was the ‘tempo’ of the evening life that drove this.
On completion of Ex JERBAL STORM many of the Bn took the opportunity to get in some AT. This was made up of Type 2 in the main with one Type 3 Exped to Corsica, South France.
Sport continues to thrive within the Bn. What is fast becoming the norm is the Bn British Army Warrior Fitness (BAWF) team running riot in all events entered. So far this year, the 2 SCOTS BAWF team have ‘entered 3 won 3’. On an individual note CSgt Chris
Bonner was selected to referee a Glasgow League Cup Final at the home of Celtic FC.
Back at Glencorse Barracks, the Bn hosted a French Mountain Troop. While they were in town they wanted to see the local sights. Naturally the Pentlands Hills are a sight I really thought they should visit. And what better way to get there than running! Their lack of knowledge became apparent when they stood on parade with their cameras to take pictures of the hills. Needless to say, they enjoyed it, however, they expressed no interest in “revisiting” the Pentland Hills for the remainder of their visit.
As this goes to press the Bn are returning from their latest exercise ‘Ex URBAN FUSILIER” held at Copehill Down where the Bn had been honing their skills in an urban environment just before taking some well-earned leave.
The coming year already has a jam-packed FOE with Ex ASKARI STORM and deployment on Op TORAL. The men and women of 2 SCOTS continue to both ‘Work Hard and Play Hard’.
