After a well-deserved Christmas leave from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst I was looking forward to taking up my new post with 3 Armd Close Support (CS) Bn REME in Paderborn, Germany. After delivering PD training to Officer Cadets for the last two years; I was looking forward to the new challenges ahead within battalion life; implementing Programme THOR and APTS within the unit physical training programme
After arriving I soon realised how much the battalion have been tasked with; supporting exercises in Germany, Somalia, Falklands, Op TORAL, CATAN and winter repair in Canada. Along with the Battalion rebasing to Tidworth in July 19, 20 Armoured Company’s main focus is supporting 20 Bde on PS1 in Canada Apr -Jun 19.
I was made to feel one of the family within the battalion straight away and physical training was one of the ways I got to meet a number of officers & soldiers before they deployed. Soon after being introduced to the WOs’ & Sgts’ Mess I was invited to become part of the Mess Committee which I have enjoyed thus far. Apart from APTS and THOR I wanted to reintroduce sport into the Battalion. Along with rebasing and deployment 3 Armd CS Bn REME have been entering a number of sporting events in British Forces (Germany) and UK. The basketball team was put through their paces when they played in the BF(G) basketball competition and become BF(G) champions; which gained them a spot in the Army Basketball Competition held in Aldershot. With a great amount of talent from around the army that entered the competition our team successfully made it to the semi-finals. Our football team has been training hard. The OIC has planned a football tour to Florida, USA with the intent on playing Miami fútbol.
Promoting a healthy life style and fitness within the battalion I have introduced the 3 Armd CS Bn REME 2 Week Fitness Challenge.
Teaching Back Position
Every two weeks there will be a different fitness challenge which will incorporate movements and components of fitness from the APTS and is an individual lead.
Things I am looking forward to are, having the majority of the Battalion back and rebasing to Tidworth with the focus on providing APTS in our new training environment. Entering sporting events and raising a team to enter the UK South BAWF and other events in the near future.
