JOINT SERVICE MOUNTAIN TRAINING WING BAVARIA (JSMTW) (B)
It has been another busy year of course delivery at the JSMTW (B), coupled with some staff movements, the key
one is a new OC at the helm Major J Painting RLC. We have adjusted the way in which we deliver our key areas applicable to Bavaria, namely the Alpine Mountaineering and Skiing disciplines which has resulted in an increased availability of courses for our students. Due to a massive increase in demand we have also quali ed a huge number of ski leaders through a very challenging winter season. The Alp Paddle and Alp Ski concentrations continue to grow and have become extremely popular with demand outstripping supply. This has led to a very busy year for our staff.
The Snow Warrior Concentration which is a JSMTC delivered output that takes places in Wertach, Bavaria has also had a very successful season; it has delivered in excess of 500 ski foundation quali cations. As part of this there is also the amazing Adaptive ski packages that take place for Wounded Injured and Sick (WIS) personnel, and we are fortunate that an increasing number of other RAPTCI’s visit and assist with the delivery of the Adaptive serials. the Services. As we move into the new training year we again look forward to a very full calendar of concentrations all of which are available through the ATG website.
JOINT SERVICE MOUNTAIN TRAINING WING CAPEL CURIG JSMTW (CC)
WO2 (QMSI) J Bradford RAPTC
JSMTW Capel Curig has been delivering Type 2 AT for the past 8 years and we offer units who don’t have their own instructors a plug and play option whereby the only administration they need to do is to book transport to and from their unit. Could it get any easier! Everything else regarding their AT package is organised by the CC. This method of facilitating AT for units has been a great success and demand has routinely exceeded supply. Course application forms can be sent at any time by contacting our Wing AO, Miss Rosie Ellis. Currently we can take a maximum of 30 students from any Cap
Badge or Service each week. Our packages are Multi Activity but we also have the capacity to deliver JSAT Foundation courses. As you
would expect, activities include Rock Climbing, Mountaineering, Kayaking/Canoeing or Mountain Biking.
Our Temporarily Employed Elsewhere (TEE) instructor pool has developed very well over the past 12 months from being predominantly RA to a mixture of cap
badges from the Guards, Infantry and CAMUS. We are constantly seeking to recruit the right individuals to be employed as TEE in order to deliver AT packages under our risk management here at CC. The majority
of our TEE instructors will return to their parent unit as an Adventurous Training Leader who can perform unit
organised AT which is a huge bene t to their units.
