A JOURNEY TO THE ARMY SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL TRAINING (GERMANY) CLOSE DOWN PARADE
Lt Col (Retd) G B Jones
The Army School of Physical Training (Germany) (ASPT (G)) was established in 1945 and after 70 years of qualifying physical training instructors, sports coaches and of cials for British Army personnel based in Germany it closed its doors on the 8 Oct 15 with a nal Pass-off Parade for All Arms Physical Training Instructors. The Parade was followed by a Beating of Retreat and a Regimental Dinner in the evening.
The Association provided 2 welfare Mini-busses for retired members of the Corps to travel to the event and at 0630 hrs on the 7 Oct 14 arrived at the ASPT Aldershot to embark on the long trip to Sennelarger.
The drive took 12 hours and we arrived in time for the curry supper in the WOs & Sgts Mess. The following day we all attended the Pass-Off Parade, Beating Retreat and the Regimental dinner. The return journey on the 9 Oct also took 12 hours and we arrived back at the ASPT Aldershot at 2000 hrs. A long tiring journey over three days especially for the drivers; Gary Jones and Chic Wilkinson, but well worth the effort and on that note I would like to thank everyone in the party for making it a memorable experience with a particular thanks for Chic Wilkinson who volunteered to drive the second bus there and back.
