7 INFANTRY BRIGADE & HEADQUARTERS EAST
WO2 (QMSI) L Swann RAPTC
Well to say the last 12 months has been “fast and furious” is an understatement.
7X HQ said farewell to Capt Jack Horner, who departed to start his Master’s Degree at Loughborough University and welcomed in Capt Lee Davison after almost 3 years at HQ LONDIST.
The Headquarters nalised the transition from 49 (E) Bde to 7 Inf Bde & HQ East just before Capt Davison arrived. Under our rebranded organisation the G7 PD Branch planned the main sporting event in the annual calendar, The Brigade Festival of Sport. The event was held at the newly established ATR Grantham. It was a great success with approximately 600 soldiers from across 7X and HQ East AOR, competing in 6 different sports throughout the day, culminating with the WATT Bike Chain of Command Race. A great day which exempli ed “Sport for All”.

We then directed our efforts towards the inaugural Brigade Patrol Competition in preparation for the Cambrian Patrol, which was to be held in the Peak District over a 48 hour period for over 100 soldiers. After several recces and meetings with the National Park Rangers, a circular route of approximately 60 kilometres over varying terrain was planned. The next phase was to detail OPCOM Units to IC 6 varied military stands around the route, which included a river crossing. Capt Davison was OIC River Crossing for the competition and to ensure he wasn’t found wanting, he applied himself to many hours of reading AGAI Vol 1 Chap 18 and the Jungle and Watermanship PAMS. He didn’t test the water himself, which was disappointing!! The event was a success, with many units looking forward to the 2016 competition.
Normal routine resumed back in the of ce with planning PT related courses, non and weak swimmer courses, writing SJARs and many hours travelling to conduct Physical Development Inspections. To
