Welbeck Football Welbeck Rugby Welbeck Cross Country
Due to AFC (H) having biannual JS Long Course intakes I prioritised my planning in the initial stages of 2015 to the JS of Peninsula and Cambrai Company, by March I had managed to secure a day of Sports xtures for the JS against Welbeck, The Defence Sixth Form College (DSFC). This event was the rst of its kind and saw JS and DSFC students competing in Football, Rugby, Cross-Country and Squash. The day proved to be a huge success, with AFC (H) winning both its Football matches but due to outstanding results in the Squash, Rugby and Cross-Country DSFC were crowned the overall 2015 Champions. The event has now been rmly imbedded as an annual xture in the AFC (H) Sports Calendar, with each College taking turns in hosting the Competition.
Once the JS competition had been completed and swotted I focused on my role as UK North Female Festival of Sport (FFoS) Secretary. Having reviewed the post exercise report from last year’s organiser SSgt Vicky “Blackburnator” Blackburn, I decided to uplift the FFoS to a two day Competition incorporating 6 different team sports; Football, Netball, Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball and a Swimming Gala. The event was well supported by ladies of local Units with 6 teams attending and a total of 100 female soldiers participating in the competition. This is massive achievement for female sport in the region in particular for AFC (H) ladies who came overall Runners Up in the Competition.
From hosting this event and exposing the female PS of AFC (H) to UK North Competitions, it proved easier to secure female participants from AFC (H) for future UK North Competitions. In
her role as the UK North Netball Secretary, Sgt Jules “Boomer” organised the Competition to be hosted at AFC (H) and I set about organising a team. Once again the AFC (H) ladies were outstanding being crowned the Competition champions and the winning streak continued as we also won the UK North Swimming Competition hosted at Catterick Garrison Leisure Centre later in the year. The female sport success was matched at the College by the male PS Triathlon and Rugby 7’s teams who also placed rst in their respective UK North Competitions.
After an outstanding year capitalising on all sports opportunities that presented for the PS and developing the S&S package for the JS at AFC (H) I was honoured to receive a Commanding Of cer’s (CO) Commendation for Services to Sport in recognition for all that I had achieved. I was extremely pleased to receive this Award from the CO but rmly felt the achievements in Sport throughout the year were as a result of the AFC Sports teams and coaches as a collective. Delightedly, in Nov of 2015 AFC (H) received the
