‘conferences’ in 6 months than I have managed in 2 years. He is also supporting the Army’s Women in Ground Close Combat Study providing the RAPTC subject matter expert advice; I’m sure there will be more on that in next year’s MBS. Also new to the HQ, but not to me, is WO1 (SMI) Paul Holden who joined us as the new SO3 G1 on FTRS. The last time we worked together, he got me to make the tea when I was his Gym 2IC as a Cpl at 4 ADTR; funny how nothing’s changed! Paul is currently the longest serving uniformed member of the RAPTC with 33 years under his belt and we are very fortunate to have such a wealth and breadth of experience in the HQ. The SO2 Training Development Team, Maj Rab Lundie, has all of the news on his team elsewhere but I would just like to record a note of thanks for the team’s hard work and support, sometimes against very tight deadlines and con icting priorities, nevertheless, they always pull it out of the bag. In the same vein, Mrs Debbie Winter has continued to support the HQ in her new role as SO3 Information Manager getting to grips with the vagaries of the Army’s multiple software systems and gremlins within them. Debbie also keeps the Associations nances on track; a vital job that she does exceptionally well. Equally, Mrs Jules Fairclough has provided outstanding clerical support to the Association; she also keeps the HQ’s wheels turning and supports everyone’s plethora of other requirements. In the museum our curator, Mr Adam Culling, steadfastly beavers away to maintain the existing archive and build its contents with the addition of our more recent history. Lt Col (Retd) Gary Jones, our Regimental Secretary, continues to ‘deliver the goods’ supporting the broad range of the serving and retired association membership’s needs. He regularly briefs the Class 1 Instructors and other RAPTC courses on the outstanding bene ts available to all members and is passionately driven to ensure they fully understand what it means to be a part of our very exclusive club.
Supporting me, the SMAA and all of our serving personnel, Capt (MAA) Iain Bareham hit the ground running (literally) having taken over from Maj (MAA) Barney Barnett as our SO3 Policy and Plans. Not only has he utilised his exceptional IT skills to improve the HQ’s information ow he has, along with SSgt Southern-Naylor, also improved and developed our social media presence across Facebook and Twitter with excellent results. He led the project team to deliver the Comdt’ Study period for 337 personnel and managed to keep up with his day job! He takes it all in his stride and still somehow nds the time to train for and compete in ultra- marathons raising money for various charitable causes. It would be remiss of me not to mention Lt Col (SMAA) Steve Davis who has now entered his nal weeks in of ce and the Army. As you

would expect to be the case the RAPTC’s professional Head of Arm has had a lot on his plate over the 2 years I have been in post and he has always held the best interests of the Corps and individual of cers and soldiers as his mantra for daily business. He has worked tirelessly to ensure the Corps has a coherent strategy and a plan that touches all areas of our PD footprint and he has championed every member of the RAPTC amongst the higher echelons of the Army’s chain of command by raising awareness of the truly outstanding work you all do. As I’m sure we would all wish to do when leaving any job, he leaves the Corps in a better place and we all wish him the best of luck in his new post with the Army Sports Control Board. Finally, as I pass the baton onto Maj Jimmy Hendrickson and move to pastures new in the Army HQ Training Branch Andover, I wish him the best of luck and hope that he nds the job to be equally rewarding.
