RADC Event 2023
Capt D A Bruce
The 7th and 8th of November saw the Soldiers and Officers of the Corps gather at DMS Whittington for the annual Corps event. For a Corps used to working in either isolation or in small pockets it’s a rare chance for people to catch up and get updated on the key events around the RADC.
Tuesday was a jam-packed day full of lectures that covered a range of topics relevant to many of us across the Corps, that to the best of my ability I will try to summarise. With the changes to Unified Career Management coming in that will affect us an update from the RCMO was useful. The often-repeated statement of ‘take charge of your own career’ still rings true. There was the routine Project Victoria
update which can be condensed to ‘wait out.’ This project has now taken longer than both the Sistine Chapel and the Egyptian Sphinx. I am sure it will have equal cultural significance [Ed- fully supportive of Capt Bruce’s optimism on that one!]. Standby for next year’s update....
The afternoon was filled with potted sports. The Hockey can be described
and enthusiastic but of a Sunday League standard, but the cup stacking was the
best performance witnessed by the staff
at Whittington since last year (which
may or may not have coincided with last Corps event). A quick turnaround to the accommodation to don flat caps and flapper dresses ahead of the Peaky Blinders function was the next timing. The venue of
The School House was ideal for an evening of dodgy Black Country accents and even worse dancing from the Captain cohort.
The final day covered another wide
range of topics including SLC’s (how to spend the Army’s money in weird ways), Mindfulness (we are only alive now) and Op GOLDEN ORB (the other type of drill). This was followed by the Corps photograph and Service in the Memorial Arboretum and a chance to reflect on those who have gone before us or are no longer with us.
Until next year!
