People want to know if a loving God is capable of
mass death and devastation. In the book of Leviticus, He
warned His people of the consequences they would face
if they disobeyed Him.
“And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken
unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon
you according to your sins.”
Leviticus 26:21 (KJV)
In two (2) separate incidents, God killed 14,700
people, then 24,000 more, all for disobedience.
“Now they that died in the plague were fourteen
thousand and seven hundred” Numbers 16:49 (KJV)
“And those that died in the plague were twenty and
four thousand.” Numbers 25:9 (KJV)
Just as God promises blessings those who obey and
keep His commandments, He also promises disaster to
those who rebelliously refuse to.
I realize it’s hard to wrap your mind around a
merciful God full of love, sending so much mayhem upon
His people. But in the Bible, God’s punishment usually
led to repentance and restoration.
God told Solomon:
“If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I
command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send
