The activities of 2MIC are essentially based on my experience gained while working
with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA):
the prevention and management of crises (natural disasters, conflicts and other urgent
situations).
The potential partners of 2MIC are the regional UN agencies, such as the Economic
Community of Central African States (ECCAS) as well as non-governmental
organizations (NGOs).
In addition to this, I built up new local expertise on political dialogue and the
consolidation of peace, the promotion of social dialogue as a means of preventing and
solving conflicts in the work domain, and the history of Africa.
To achieve this I concluded agreements, as a private consultant, with various partners:
• The CIRID (Centre Indépendant de recherches et d’initiatives pour le dialogue),
an NGO based in Geneva which has consultative status with ECOSOC. Within
CIRID, I am the Executive Director of the Macky Sall Prize for Dialogue in Arica,
of which the President of Senegal, Mr. Macky Sall, is the godfather. I also
contribute to the realization of projects to strengthen capacities to consolidate
peace.
• The IFDS (Internationale francophone du dialogue social), a project based in
Dakar, Senegal, that groups some 20 francophone countries. Its main objective
is to promote social dialogue in its member countries. It benefits from the support
of the ILO and other bi- and multi-lateral agencies.
• The Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, in Rabat, through a project dedicated
to the promotion of the history of Africa.
Finally, in addition to these consultative activities, since August 2018, I am collaborating
with partners based in Gabon, in the construction of social housing and in agriculture,
by promoting financial resources from potential investors. These projects are essential
in a country where low-income populations are in dire need of social housing and low-
cost food products.

TRIBUTE TO AAMIR ALI
Aamir Ali, who died last December, will be remembered by many of our members as a
very dynamic Chairman of AAFI/AFICS for many years (AAFI/AFICS – could you please
indicate which years he was Chairman because I really can’t remember – was he the
longest serving Chairman so far ?). In the following two articles Zafar Shaheed and Jack
Martin, both of them former ILO staff members who knew Aamir well, discuss different
facets of his life.
