100 Reflections that Crafted Geneva International
provided electoral assistance in Cambodia and Angola. It has placed military
observers at the disposal of UNPROFOR in the former Yugoslavia. It is
providing logistic support for United Nations action in Mozambique. And it
will soon be participating in the reform of the police in Haiti.
May I also recall that I recently designated Ambassador Edouard Brunner
as my Special Representative in Georgia.
The contribution of your country is therefore a valuable one, and I can
only express the hope that Switzerland will play an ever greater part in United
Nations missions. In so doing, your country will remain true to its traditional
commitment to the service of international law and world peace.
The United Nations today is at a turning point in its history. In order
to meet the demand of States and peoples, the United Nations is placing
itself untiringly at the service of international security and peace, at the
service of sustainable development and environmental protection, and at
the service of democracy and human rights.
This only underlines my hope that ever stronger cooperation will, in the
future, be established between the United Nations and Switzerland. For a very
long time already, Geneva has been one of the capitals of the United Nations
system. Allow me to express the hope that, in the near future, Switzerland as a
whole will express its ever growing devotion to the values of the United
Nations!
