11.5  Object Relative Clauses with Prepositions

                      1. A relative pronoun (that, which, who, or whom)   The people were customers. I met with them.
                        can be the object of a preposition.

                      2.  Remember: The object relative pronoun is often   The people who I met with were customers.

                      3.  In formal English, the preposition can come   The person to whom we spoke was helpful.
                        at the beginning of the object relative clause   The job for which I applied was new.
                        before whom (for people) or which (for things).

                      4. Do not use a preposition before who or that.  ✓  The person to whom we spoke was helpful.
                                                                      ✗  The person to who you spoke is not here today.

                                                                      ✓  The job for which I applied was new.
                                                                      ✗  The job for that I applied was new.





                     4  Complete the sentences with an object relative clause. Use the words in parentheses.
                         Only use a relative pronoun if one is given. More than one form of the verb may be correct.

                         1.  Susanne enjoyed the race     that she rode in               (that / she / ride in) yesterday.

                         2.  The sport

                            at your old job?

                        10.  This is the article                                      (that / we / talk about) last week.
