Car Show Vignettes

Al Wood has owned his 1965 Plus 4 Morgan for just over half a
century. The two have matured together and both have enjoyed the
                                       journey.

Wood purchased his Plus 4 in 1971
when he was stationed in the Air Force
at Fort Worth, Texas. " I used to drive
to Dallas on the weekends and you
could see all sorts of cars there. I
wanted a car with some style and
looked at 4 or 5 Morgans before I
bought this one. The engine has been
rebuilt and the coachwork redone by
the Morgan factory. I'm still using Pure
premium gas in it. While I only drive it a
few times a year, now, I still start it up
every month. While it's harder for me
to get in and out of it I still love
                                      everything about it.."

Left: Robert Atchinson enjoyed the show from the passenger seat of
his 2010 XF Jaguar. Over the past years, Atchinson says that he and his
wife have had five or six Jaguars. He says he and his wife once owned
an XKE purchased because a college boyfriend named Ken had one
back in 1973 and she loved the car. " We both loved that car," he said,
" and we spent a fortune on it."
" I can't drive any more," he said, " but I'd still love to have one of those
                                           XKEs again."

Atchinson's current ride is a very nice consolation prize, however, to
replace the roadster that got away.

Right : Lynn Putnam's "other" car is a Rolls-Royce Silver Spur but he can
certainly make do if he decides he wants to be a bit more sporty than sedate.
This 1972 Jaguar V12 E-type ws the result of a search to expand his current car
collection, again based on happy memories from the past. "I had an e-type in
college," Putnam reveals, " and I just wanted another one. I thought I had
found it in Connecticut but when I made the trip there intending to purchase
it, I was disappointed to discover it wasn't what I expected. I came home
empty-handed but still looking. Then, just outside of Birmingham, Alabama,
this car showed up and it was exactly what I wanted. It was everything I
remembered from my college car, except a little bigger and a little more
refined. I had it shipped to JDs for a going over and here we are."
