STUDENT VOICE
MANUFACTURING - KEEGAN GRAY
Keegan Gray, a student at CHSS, moved to Huron County from Grand Valley last year. He is a grade 12 student who
is in a 4 credit Co-op this semester and is striving for an Apprenticeship, with the hope of owning his own business. Keegan would like to have a Mobile Field Welding and Repair business. His pathway experience thus far has him:
• Working co-op at a perfect placement: Van Den Berg Millwrighting, after starting off at Blacksmith Work
• Considering becoming a millwright and is using the SHSM program and the experiential learning and reach ahead opportunities to determine which trade is for him
• Completing certifications in the SHSM program such as Working at Heights certification along with First Aid and CPR at no cost to him
• Keegan feels that his SHSM accomplishments will tell employers that he cares about his education and that he is motivated to gain skills that are needed in industry. The advice that Keegan has for students starting high school is to ”learn as much as you can to try to figure out what trade you want to go into, or what the best path for you is after high school.”
Students in the Agriculture SHSM program explored Ferguson Apiaries this fall to learn about the business of keeping bees! It was a hands on experience that encouraged students to stretch their comfort zones and experience a true agricultural encounter. Check out the video to hear what some of the students thought of the opportunity. #FocusYourFuture
