COMMUNIT Y
Involvement
Community Involvement Hours (40) must be completed, unpaid, outside normal instructional hours to attain a secondary school diploma.
It is recommended that students start to get their hours as soon as possible beginning in the summer following Grade 8. Students can seek opportunities in the community by offering assistance to service clubs, community groups, charities, conservation groups, health agencies, not-for-profit activities, and others. Student activities are not to displace workers or to be during scheduled classroom time. Use the 40 Hour Community Involvement Record to record your hours and hand it in to your Student Services office regularly. If completing community hours is a challenge for you, please talk to Student Services for support as soon as you enter grade 9.
