Vision for the future
The Kylemore community is committed to putting its heritage and rich resources at the
service of the Church and the wider society.
The aim of the community is to ensure that everyone visiting will have a truly unique
experience, striving to achieve excellence in everything we do, making Kylemore a special
place of retreat and peace. Collaboration and trust with all our friends and stakeholders will
preserve the best of the past and protect the Kylemore estate for future generations. ‘The
value of many united together has more energy and consistency for achieving a lofty result’.
In all this we are guided by Christian values and the Rule of St Benedict.
‘Every care and concern must be shown to guests; a kind word is better
than the best gift’. (RB, Chapter 31, v 14 ).
The Benedictine ethos of sustainability
Guided by the Rule of St Benedict, all things are to be done with care and moderation.
As stewards of Kylemore, the nuns care for all the goods of the place including the service of
prayer, hospitality, education and conservation of the estate. This includes employment and
its impact on the region.
The heritage of the past and the next one hundred years
The community is committed to a life of contemplative prayer, to the liturgy, to the search
for God, for true wisdom in fraternal communion in a “silence” that listens. The community
is also committed to the growth and development of Kylemore.
