Chapter Five
How It Works
64 23 Resentment is the "number one" offender. It destroys
64 24 more alcoholics than anything else. From it stem all
64 25 forms of spiritual disease, for we have been not only
64 26 mentally and physically ill, we have been spiritually
64 27 sick. When the spiritual malady is overcome, we
64 28 straighten out mentally and physically. In dealing
64 29 with resentments, we set them on paper. We listed
64 30 people, institutions or principle with whom we were
64 31 angry. We asked ourselves why we were angry. In
64 32 most cases it was found that our self-esteem, our
64 33 pocketbooks, our ambitions, our personal relationships,
65 1 (including sex) were hurt or threatened. So we were
65 2 sore. We were "burned up."
65 3 On our grudge list we set opposite each name our
65 4 injuries. Was it our self-esteem, our security, our ambitions,
65 5 our personal, or sex relations, which had been
65 6 interfered with?
65 7 We were usually as definite as this example:
65 8 I'm resentful at: The cause: Affects my:
65 9 Mr. Brown His attention to my Sex relations
65 10 wife. Self-esteem (fear)
