What is a Leave of Absence?
Keep Your Leaves Team Updated.
A Leave of Absence (LOA) is any time away from work (other than vacation) for a serious medical condition or if 3 or more days are expected to be missed. If
the need for the leave is not foreseeable, you must request the leave as soon as practicable (within one (1) to two (2) business days of learning of the need for leave). There are many types of leaves and each leave has eligibility requirements and required actions. The Standard Insurance Company will provide you with further details on what leaves you may be eligible for based on your circumstance when you file for your leave.
What are intermittent leaves and reduced leave schedules?
Not all reasons for leave will require that you are out of work on a continuous basis. If The Standard
Insurance Company certifies your claim, you may be eligible to miss work in as little as one hour segments of time for yourself or for the care of
a family member. The Standard will work with you and your physician, or your qualified family member’s physician, to certify the time and frequency related to your intermittent leave.
A reduced leave schedule decreases an employee’s usual number of working hours per workweek or per workday. A reduced leave schedule is a change in the employee’s schedule for a period of time, normally from full time to part time.
There are also state-specific Paid Family and Medical Leaves that may offer intermittent or reduced paid leaves. Leaves laws and rules vary by state.
