What separates the highest performing organizations from the rest is culture. Culture is often viewed as the cumulative effect of what an organization’s people do and how they do it – it’s vital to a companies’ success.
Creating Culture
 Gotalk Q:
If culture is so vital, then how do you make an organization’s culture as high-performing as possible?
SG; I think it’s important for organizations to define and continuously communicate what they want their corporate culture to be. It’s key from the onset when you recruit new employees to your organization that your recruiters and hiring managers hire for “fit”. From experience I can share that fit is the most important element in ensuring that you bring the right people to your organization in order to create highly engaged performing employees. You’ll always be able
to find candidates with the experience and educational background that you desire but fit into an organization is so important for creating that culture.
Our people are our greatest asset! No company can build or maintain culture without people who share our values or possess the willingness & ability to embrace those values. We need to look after our people and provide opportunities for them to continue to grow their careers with us
and continuously offer opportunities to promote from within where possible.
And last but not least we have to have FUN! You want your employees to be committed to your organization, but let’s not lose sight that we need to have FUN while doing it. As an employee, we all spend many hours working for the company so its key to have a culture that works hard but makes time to have FUN too!
GotalkQ:
HR is really the frontline in building relations- hips with employees and often set the stage for a successful partnerships. With that in mind...
How would you define Voyago’s culture?
SG; From my time here to date, I’ve had an opportunity to meet with many staff and leaders across the organization and from what I’ve seen it’s clear that people are very proud to work for Voyago. Our staff work hard to continuously strive to provide the best customer service they can. Our team are caring and show compassion for our organization which is pivotal.
Gotalk Q:
What is your vision for our culture and how would you change it to make it better?
SG; A great culture starts with a strong mission and vision statement that is complimen-
ted with company values. While the vision articulates our purpose, values are a set of behaviours that are needed to achieve that vision. I think we need to continue to talk about our culture and what it means to be a highly engaged employee. We need to lead by example and listen to our employees.
Gotalk Q:
How do you envision using the onboarding and employee introduction phase of their hire to instil our culture?
SG; I think we have a great opportunity to utilize the onboarding process to share with our new hires exactly what our mission, vision, values and corporate culture is. This summer the HR team will be working towards a review
