N Private Security Oficers have become the irst TRUE responders on their sites!

It’s true and the sooner we acknowledge this the better off we will all be. I have
written several posts across our social media platforms that “observe and report” is

no longer an option. With increasing crime and terroristic acts being committed on a
daily basis, it time for the private security profession to step up and be prepared for

a new age where anything can happen at anytime and anyplace. We can no longer
afford to place Security Oficers in harm’s way and hope that nothing will happen.

Law Enforcement Oficers will clearly tell you that no call for service is “routine.”
So must the private security oficer’s attitude be. What could begin with a simple

hourly tour could turn into an armed trespasser seeking to commit a mass shooting.
Take into consideration a few things:

First, many security oficers do not receive the level of training other than what is
minimally required by a state, if at all. Training hours can range from eight hours in

Connecticut to forty hours in California. During the initial training, many topics are
covered yet not enough hours are dedicated to any one subject. Additionally, and
this is where I have one of my biggest concerns, is that in many jurisdictions,

continual or refresher training is not required. Merely paying a fee to renew the
security license is doing a great disservice to the Security Oficer and the people
