Drinking and Driving Chart
I was pleased to develop this drinking and driving chart for the special issue of the Elite Investigative Journal.
There has been several charts developed over the years but this one I feel is unique as it includes not only the esti-
mated number of drinks required for a typical man or woman to reach a certain BAC, but also the physical effects
and the predictive effects on driving. As well, it includes the increasing risks of causing a motor vehicle collision
(MVC) and being killed in a single motor vehicle collision (according to age and gender). The substantial increase
in risk for young drivers (ages 16 to 20 years) supports various legislation that restrict young drivers to lower BAC
limits.
I would like to acknowledge the National Highway Trafic Safety Association Chart (The ABCs of BAC, DOT HS
809 844, February 2005) as forming a basis for this improved chart.
