REME
Structure Overview
153 Recovery Company of the Royal Electrical & Mechanical
Engineers (REME) is located within 2 Army Reserve Centres
(ARCs) in East Kilbride (EK), just to the south of Glasgow, and
Grangemouth (G/Mouth) close to Falkirk. The Company is
comprised of 3 platoons (Pl); Company Headquarters (CHQ) Pl
at EK, A Pl located at EK and B Pl in G/Mouth.
CHQ Pl comprises the admin and support elements of the
Company with a combination of Regular Army and Army
Reserves personnel. These members of 153 run the day to day
requirements of the ARC and Company.
Key personalities:
The Officer Commanding (OC) leads the Company, liaising and
taking direction from higher formation. Orders and instructions
are then passed onto the Command Team and troops on the
ground. The OC has a host of Officers and Non Commissioned
Officers (NCOs) to rely on to implement his orders and policies.
The Artificer Sergeant Major (ASM) is in charge of vehicle
maintenance output. To implement disciple, the Company
Sergeant Major (CSM,) administers and educates any Reservist,
who is in breach of the Army code of conduct. CHQ & A Pl, East Kilbride
The Permanent Staff Officer Admin (PSAO) is responsible for the
day to day running the Company. Under the PSAO there are
civilian Admin Officers and Technical Stores Specialists.
Regular Army personnel in the form a Senior Permanent Staff
Instructor (SPSI) and Permanent Staff Instructors (PSIs) are
imbedded within the Company to help train, administer and offer
guidance to the Army Reserve.
The Technical Quartermaster Stores (TQMS) who is responsible
for ARC property and any stores or kit requirements by
Reservists.
B Pl, Grangemouth
When you join, your first point of contact will be the
Recruiting Sub Unit Support Officer (RSUSO). The RSUSO
takes ownership of Recruiting and Employer, Youth &
Community engagement.
Working under the direction of the RSUSO, there are 2
Recruiters working within the Regimental Recruiting &
Mentoring Team (RRMT). The Recruiters will help interview,
guide and assist candidates wishing to join the Company.
From the candidates first day visiting the ARC, all the way
through their Recruit Basic Training, they will have a
member from the RRMT to support and guide them.
Once a Recruit becomes a trained soldier they will become
a member of the Company at the ARC of their choice.
Within each Pl there is a Platoon Commander (Officer) and
a Platoon Sergeant (Senior Non-Commissioned Officer
(SNCO) who together are responsible for commanding their
Pl.
Within each Pl there is a further breakdown of manpower
into sections, with Junior Non-Commissioned Officers
(JNCOs) setting a good example and developing newer
members of the Company under their command.
