In this article, I will be talking about
how we all have had to adapt to life in lockdown. I will also be covering some subjects like Home Learning, how we can adapt to change and how we can find many new ways of communication in lockdown!
To start off with, I hope you and your families are all well. In these strange and unpredictable times, we all need to be there for each other, and some people may just need some one to talk to every now and then. Recently I was added to
a group chat, at first, I wondered what it was for, but I soon realised that it was
for help and a friendly chat with all my classmates. Group chats are a great way to stay in touch with many people in these troubled and strange times. Even if you do not want to be part of a huge group chat, you can still just phone up a friend and have a chat.
I would like to now go on to how setting up home learning has affected us all. When the government announced that they were to be closing schools, there was a lot of worry and tension around how we would cope and how we would do it. But Kingsmead staff and students have been there, and we are ALL now managing to teach, learn and socialise remotely. Kingsmead has set up virtual coffee morning video calls for all to go on and I think this is a great idea! Home learning has challenged us all but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Every single person at Kingsmead is
now having to adapt to change and we are having to be there for each other. Adapting to change can be hard for some people then others. This is because some people like the routine that they are normally in. But I am sure that we have all found new routines to cope with these changing and challenging times.
In these challenging times, we all need
to find new things to do so that we do
not just sit around a look at our phones all day. So why do not you try something new, I have, I have made a challenge in my garden to do with golf. I play golf normally so being in lockdown and not being able

to play golf was hard at first but now I have made some simple but challenging tasks for me to do I am now managing to get more time outdoors. The Kingsmead PE department have made a challenge list which they are setting for PE home learning, but it has some great ideas to keep fit and active.
We all need to stay positive during these different times. So we all need to look on the bright side of that there will be an end to all of this and that there will be an end to the lockdown and in 5 years’ time, we will all be remembering what we did in the lockdown of 2020. A good idea to help stay positive, to may be write a diary of
all the good things that you have do each day. You could keep hold of that diary to possibly sow the next generation when they think that times are hard and when they think that the world is going to end. Just show them that and tell them that you got through the lockdown and we beat the coronavirus outbreak. And then they will ask you what Corona was, and they will not believe a word that you say.
In these times, many of us will have struggled with the change and we will have struggled not seeing our friends. So, this is where the likes of you video chats and the group chats come in useful. You can still see you friends by video chat. Even though you cannot see them in person, you can still see them virtually!
One thing that I am sure many of us have struggled with is not being able to go outside the house and having to be stuck in the house. Being stuck in the house can be a good thing as you can have a move around in your bedroom so that it is more comfortable for home learning and you can also learn life skills like cooking and daily around the house jobs.
If you are struggling not being able to go on days out, Chester Zoo are doing virtual zoo days out. This is on their Facebook and YouTube – As linked below.

At home, we are ALL learning new
skills! We are all having to find new
ways of communicating and new ways
of learning. Show My Homework is a great tool that we have, and you can be set work and you can upload your work straight to the teacher. Last week, we had assessments, these we all set on SMHW and you could do some of them straight in to SMHW as they were multiple choice questions. You also got feedback quickly on the Knowledge tests as SMHW worked out the score for you in a percentage. SMHW is also a great tool for receiving feedback from your teachers!
As we are trying to fill all the time, we need to find things to do that is not on our electrical devices. There are many things that you can do. You could:
- Take up photography
- Do some gardening
- Learn life lessons
- Take up new hobbies
- Learn a new language
- Play sports in your back
garden
- Play family board games - Make your own games
I will finish as I started by hoping that you are all well and that you are all staying
in touch with friends and family. Even though we cannot see our friends and family in person, but we can see them by video link. Many people and families are doing quiz nights over video connection, these are good ideas so you can have some competition and you can see your family and friends.
There are many things that we can do to stay connected and scoliosis with friends and family.
