50. Double Figure 8 Bend


               Also known as: Flemish Bend




               One of the most secure bends, this is a favorite climbing knot because of its
               great strength and ability to absorb shock loads. Like the Flemish Bend, it’s
               composed of two Figure 8 Knots, but here each one is tied around the
               standing part of the other rope, rather than being threaded together.




                 Uses: joining ropes for climbing, mountaineering
                 Pros: very secure and strong, absorbs shock loads

                 Cons: none known
