  fund neonatal
resuscitaire
Thanks to generous local benefactors who donated £10,000 to Leeds Cares, the charity was able to fund a new neonatal resuscitaire earlier this year. The Neonatal Resuscitaire is a mobile resuscitation platform that enables doctors to give immediate respiratory support with medical gases and appropriate heating to baby’s requiring extra care shortly after birth. It also provides a safer way of transferring babies to the appropriate facility, ultimately ensuring the best possible outcomes for our smallest patients.
Make-over improves patient environment
It is widely acknowledged that the hospital environment can have a huge impact on patients’ experiences of care and their recovery. As part of a rolling programme, Leeds Cares has been busy refreshing the Children’s Hospital corridors and main reception areas with fresh and vibrant wall art that is bringing a whole new level of excitement for children visiting the hospital.
Each floor in Clarendon Wing is themed with space exploration, car racing scenes and zoo animals featuring along the corridors which connect wards and departments. The roll-out of the artwork is continuing with Martin Wing next to undergo a fabulous make-over.
   Beads of Courage
Our highly specialist therapeutic play service offers
a range of support to children and young people undergoing hospital treatment to provide distraction, comfort and a creative outlet for their worries.
Leeds Cares provides the majority of funding for our play team and also recently contributed £5000 to the roll-out of our Beads of Courage programme, which helps young patients to record and re-tell their hospital journey through brightly coloured beads. A bead is added for each appointment, operation or procedure with some children amassing thousands of the charms during their treatment journey.
  Generous support from charity partners
As well as Leeds Cares, Leeds Children’s Hospital works with a huge number of charities including Laura Crane Trust, the Teenage Cancer Trust, CLIC Sargent, POD Children’s Charity, Theodora Children’s Charity and Children’s Heart Surgery Fund to name a few.
In 2018/19, donations to the Children’s Hospital included thousands of pounds of gifts, toys, entertainment and electrical equipment also donated through schools, charities, individual giving and corporate fundraisers.
