Gearing up for the Transplant Games
After being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in December 2015, Rosie (pictured far right, above) began chemotherapy before having a life-saving bone marrow transplant in April 2016. Having won medals on behalf of ‘Team Leeds’ for the last two years running, Rosie is thrilled to have been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Games in Newcastle this year too.
Good Luck Rosie!
                                                      Supporting the Leeds Team
A huge focus of our work as a Children’s Hospital is on supporting children and young people to live fulfilling lives. It’s part of our contribution to the city-wide vision to make Leeds the best place for children and young people to grow up in.
One aspect of this is supporting the Leeds Children’s Transplant Team to attend the national and international transplant games by not only organising the team but financially supporting competitors so they can achieve their dreams of participating. This year we’ve teamed up with Leeds Cares in the Transplant Games Appeal to help raise the £40,000 needed to send everyone to the Games.
Alongside a generous donation from Kidney Care UK, a series of events and activities are being put on to raise the money. Competitors’ families also raise their own sponsorship through local fundraising activities.
