Built-Up-Roofing (BUR) Roof System

BUR systems are most commonly known as “tar and gravel” roofs. BUR systems are
generally composed of alternating layers bitumen and reinforcing fabrics that create a
finished membrane. The bitumen typically used in BUR roof systems is asphalt, coal tar
or cold-applied adhesive.
Thermoplastic Polyolefin TPO Roof System
TPO is a single-ply reflective roof membrane made from polypropylene and ethylene-
propylene rubber polymerized together (Heat Welded). It is typically installed by fully
adhering or mechanically attached system, allowing the white membrane to remain
exposed throughout the life of the roof.
2-ply SBS Membrane
2-ply SBS modified roofs most commonly known as “torch on” roofs. A 2-ply SBS roof
system is one of the most popular roofing systems. 2-ply roofs consist of polyester of
fiberglass reinforcing mat sandwiched between two layers of rubberized asphalt. 2-ply
roof systems are durable and relatively quick to install.
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer)
EPDM rubber is a type of synthetic rubber, which can be used in a wide range of
applications. As such EPDM can be formulated to be resistant to temperatures as high
o
as 150 C, and if properly formulated it can be used outside for many years or decades
without degradation.
Inverted Roof (Upside-down Roof)
An inverted roof, also referred to as a 'protected membrane' or 'upside down' roof’ is a
form of flat roof in which the waterproofing layer is beneath the thermal insulation rather
than above it.
