The Opposition’s Filibuster
After a rather sleepy period of time, the opposition woke up and did
everything to keep the government from sleeping still yesterday. Knesset
Member Mickey Levy from Yesh Atid broke the record with an almost
consecutive seven hours speech; each hour opened with an impersonation
of Prime Minister Netanyahu at the interview he gave against corruption.
Fifty two hours have passed since the assembly was opened, and it still
isn’t clear when the voting on the Recommendations Bill, which will also
take a few hours, will begin. The Knesset Members showed a great deal of
creativity, some gave lectures to their colleagues, others shared tips for
better living. As it seems at the moment, by the end of the day members of
the opposition won’t be smiling anymore, the bill that will forbid the
police from filing recommendations in cases of public figures is expected
to pass easily. The Movement for Quality Government already announced
they will file a petition and continue the fight on it at the Supreme Court.
