Wants to be Like Everyone Else
The play ‘Star Trip’ is based on the life of twenty one year old Gal who’s
coping with cerebral palsy, and escorts (his) character during (his) school
days. In real life, disability didn’t get in the way of Gal graduating his
studies at a normal high school with distinction, and be a private English
teacher under National Service today. The play was written by Sharon,
Gal’s mom, who wants to uncover mainly to healthy teens, Gal’s
complicated daily life, which includes along with the hardship quite a few
humorous moments. Tomorrow will be the annual fundraising day for
ILAN - the Israel Foundation for Handicapped Children, which helps Gal
and his family a lot, alongside thousands of other disabled people around
Israel. “The first and most important goal is the integration of disabled
people in social life, in schools, in employment, in Israeli society.” And
this is also the message that Gal has to pass to anyone watching the play:
integration - yes; pity – no need.
